Two random samples collected from the island of G. Dh. Hoadedhdhoo has tested positive for COVID-19, leading to authorities placing the island under monitoring mechanisms.
The island was placed under monitoring status yesterday. The order means that the movement of people to and from the island will be restricted until further notice.
Hoadedhdhoo Health Center Manager Ahmed Shifau said to Sun that the island had a total of six cases.
"Two out of three surveillance samples taken yesterday tested postive. They include people with symptoms who consulted with a flu clinic. Four in quarantine had also tested positive for the virus previously." said Shifau.
He requested everyone on the island to stay at home while authorities conduct contact tracing.
Up until 18:00 yesterday, active cases of the virus were identified from 39 islands across the nation.
