The deceased 21-year-old woman who was brought into Hulhumale’ Hospital on Friday has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
An official from Hulhumale’ Hospital confirmed the test results on Saturday.
“It says on the death [registration] form that she tested positive for COVID,” said the official.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has also confirmed the test results.
“Sample was taken after death and it came [back] as positive,” said HEOC.
However, the death is not being treated as a coronavirus-related fatality.
According to a statement released by the police earlier this Saturday, the young woman was brought into Hulhumale’ Hospital at approximately 11:32 pm on Friday.
The police confirmed she was already deceased when brought into the hospital, and said that they were looking into the case.
While a few victims of sudden deaths have tested positive for the new coronavirus post mortem in recent weeks, the 21-year-old woman is the youngest yet.
