The police have penalized 3,249 people for violation of the curfew in effect in the greater Male’ region as a special measure to curb the coronavirus outbreak.
Violation of the 10:00 pm to 05:00 am curfew is punishable by a reprimand, if it’s the first such violation, and MVR 1,000 fine, for repeated violation.
In a press conference at the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) on Sunday, Chief Superintendent of Police Abdulla Shareef shared statistics on police operations to enforce coronavirus measures in the streets starting August 1.
Shareef said the police took action against 3,249 people for violation of the curfew, and said that incidents of violation of the curfew were higher from specific age groups.
CURFEW VIOLATIONS BASED ON AGE GROUP:
Shareef also shared statistics on repeat violators.
He said the police took action against one person seven times, took action against two more people six times, and took action against eight people five times.
24 people were taken action against four times, 79 people were taken action against three times, 354 people were taken action against two times, and 2,158 people were taken action against once.
Meanwhile, 2,428 people were penalized for violation of the mandatory mask order, another measure imposed to curb the spread of the new coronavirus.
The order to make masks mandatory in public locations in the greater Male’ region took effect on August 1. Violation of the order is punishable by a reprimand, if it’s the first such violation, and MVR 1,000 fine, for repeated violation.
MASK ORDER VIOLATIONS BASED ON AGE GROUP:
According to the statistics on repeat violators of the mask order; one person was taken action against six times, 10 people were taken action against four times, 26 people were taken action against three times, 162 people were taken action against two times, and 1,990 people were taken action against once.
The police also took action against 137 foreign nationals.
