Authorities have confirmed that an individual who passed away on a fishing vessel named “Raasthaa” from F. Billehdhoo has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Billehdhoo Council confirmed to Sun that the man had tested positive for the virus. The boat which conducts sea cucumber fishing was operating in K. Atoll. The boat traveled to K. Guraidhoo upon the death of the individual.
“The Health Center of Guraidhoo informs that the man was dead upon arrival.” Said the Council.
The man was later taken to Bilehdhoo via sea ambulance. It is not known whether the cause of death was COVID-19. The man tested positive after tests were conducted after his death.
Contact tracing is now underway in Bilehdhoo. No one has been isolated yet however, the island is under monitoring mechanisms. The boat “Raasthaa” last departed from Bilehdhoo on Friday.
