The absence of a parliamentarian who chairs a committee as well as the absence of the vice-chair has led to the disruption of parliament proceedings.
A report of the Parliament's Economic Committee was on the agenda today and the absence of MP Mohamed Rasheed Hussain, as well as Central Maafannu MP Ibrahim Rasheed, caused who are the Chair and VIce-chair of the Committee respectively, caused the disruption.
The Economic Committee was also to deliberate on the bill related to the protection of import-export businesses. Speaker Mohamed Nasheed said that Committee was also not working right now because of the absence,
"This is very peculiar, what we are facing," said Nasheed in relation to the absence.
The Committee report was then handed over to Milandhoo MP Ali Riza who sits on the Committee, only for MP Riza to request for more time to present the report.
A large number of absentees were identified from the session today, as the Parliament went on a short recess of 30 minutes.
