Crew members of Safari vessels and tourists spending holidays have been advised by the National Boating Association against disembarking to inhabited islands as the health authorities in the Maldives attempt to curb the spread of COVID-19 cases, which is on the rise.
According to HPA guidelines, tourists on such vessels are not permitted to disembark on islands, and tourists spending holidays on resorts are also not allowed to travel elsewhere.
Tourists on safari vessels are also not permitted to disembark to islands for PCR testing for the virus. A designated station has been established at Hulhumale’ for tourists on safari vessels to be tested for the virus. Pre-bookings can be made for testing at the station, according to NBAM
NBAM also requested people against embarking on vessels from inhabited islands. However, under special permits, electricians and medical workers are allowed to embark upon these vessels,
Safaris were permitted to operate after the Maldives opened its borders on July 15. Only safaris with special requirements fulfilled are allowed to operate by the government.
