Quarantined individual in Meedhoo passes away

An individual home-quarantined in R. Meedhoo has passed away. 

The individual is aged 72 and had traveled to India recently to receive cancer treatment. The Council of Meedhoo has confirmed that the individual has passed away.

The individual had returned to Meedhoo on August 8 after receiving treatment in India, according to the Council, and was in mandatory home-quarantine due to the situation with COVID-19.

The individual was treated in quarantine at the Health Center in of Meedhoo due to a deterioration of the patient’s condition.

“We don’t know the exact cause of death. Doctors believe that it is cancer. The individual returned from India because there was no further treatment.” Said the Council President of Meedhoo.

The individual had tested negative for COVID-19 upon returning from India. 

“Further samples have been collected and sent to R. Ungoofaaru Hospital. The result is not yet available.” Said the Council President. 

Maldives has so far confirmed more than 5,000 cases of COVID-19.
