Father re-arrested for sexual abuse of daughter

A Magistrate Court in the Maldives has remanded a man to custody pending the outcome of his trial after being arrested for allegedly sexually abusing his own daughter who is aged five.

The case occurred in a Southern atoll of the country and a 32-year old man was arrested in connection with the incident last Monday. The man was released the next day by the Magistrate Court when taken to decide on his detainment.

After police requested to revise the decision, the Magistrate Court ordered to remand him in custody pending the outcome of the trial.

The number of sexual abuse cases being reported from different regions of the country has been increasing as of recently. A case involving the sexual assault of a customer inside a pharmacy in Male' City was also reported to the police last night.
