Health Protection Agency has just announced the death of an 80-year old local admitted at Hulhumale' Medical Facility due to COVID-19.
In a tweet, HPA said that the individual was a female who was receiving treatment at the ICU of the facility.
The time of death was recorded as 09:30. This is the 19th death in relation to COVID-19 in the Maldives.
According to HPA statistics, Maldives currently has 4,293 total cases of the virus. COVID-19 cases have been on the rise since the country eased its lockdown measures on July 1. The Maldives now has 1,490 active cases. There are 1,013 patients in isolation facilities and 92 receiving treatment in hospitals.
The Maldives identified its first coronavirus case on March 7 and declared a state of public health emergency over the pandemic less than a week later on March 12.
