The Parliament Committee on National Security has elected Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) Hulhu-Henveiru MP Moosa Manik and Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) Central Fuahmulaku MP Shifaq Mufeed as its Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson respectively.
Moosa Manik was proposed as Chairperson by MDP’s Madaveli MP Ahmed Nazim, and supported by PPM’s Vice President and Fonadhoo MP Abdul Raheem Abdullah.
Moosa Manik was elected with the votes of five MDP members, Jumhooree Party’s (JP) Feydhoo MP Alhan Fahmy, two members of PPM, and one independent MP present at today’s Committee meeting.
Four MDP members at the Committee also voted for Shifag Mufeed as Deputy Chairperson.
Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) members Thulusdhoo MP Rozaina Adam and Alifushi MP Mohamed Nashiz were absent from today’s meeting, as they are on holiday.
Committee members noted that the voting shows that the members are eager to continue with the work of the Committee.
Chairperson Moosa Manik advised members to work towards making the National Security Committee the most productive Parliament Committee.
