Maafushi resident in home quarantine tests positive for coronavirus

A resident of K. Maafushi in home quarantine at the island after travelling from Male’ City has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Maafushi council president Usman Rasheed told Sun it marks the first coronavirus case to be identified at the island.

“The person to test positive is a member of a family [from Maafushi] in home quarantine after travelling from Male’. No one else among them tested positive,” he said.

Usman said the positive coronavirus case was detected when the family was tested upon completed their quarantine period.

The rest of the family has been asked to remain in home quarantine in light of the positive result as a precuationary measure.

“There is some concern as this marks Maafushi’s first COVID case. We wish for the patient to make a swift recovery,” said Usman.
