Azim: Things haven’t reached a point for a no-confidence vote against Sports Minister

MDP parliamentary group leader, Central Henveyru MP Ali Azim, denied rumors he is lobbying support to oust Sports Minister Ahmed Mahloof, stating that “things haven’t even reached a point for a no-confidence vote” against him.

Several news outlets have carried reports of an impending no-confidence motion against Mahloof, some of which allege that Ali Azim has been lobbying support for the motion.

Ali Azim denies the allegations.

Ali Azim told Sun on Tuesday that he is not pushing for a no-confidence motion against Mahloof, and that as far as he knew, no other parliamentarian is either.

“Nothing like that has been happening, as far as I know. And things haven’t even reached a point for a no-confidence vote,” he said.

When questioned whether he would support a no-confidence motion against Mahloof, if one was to be presented, Ali Azim responded that “such a situation hasn’t come to pass”.

Mahloof was summoned for a ministerial questioning session at the Parliament earlier this Tuesday, during which he spoke about the postponement of the Football Association of Maldives (FAM) elections. Mahloof said that the former FAM president and Ali Azim tried to force him to commit “vile deeds”.

“I am actually very saddened in the conduct of our PG leader Ali Azim in the FAM elections. Very saddened. Because he had good knowledge of how things are when he attempted to make me do vile deeds,” said Mahloof, in response to a question.
