President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has decreed to reopen government offices from Sunday onwards.

Government offices in the Maldives have been closed since March due to COVID-19.

President’s Office spokesperson Ibrahim Hood said that government offices will be open from 8:00 to 14:00 every weekday starting from Sunday.

The President initially decided to open government offices starting from July 1, however, the decision was later reverted.

Ministries and offices were required to conduct its work in accordance with the agency’s instructions, policies, and guidelines. Government offices may be open, however, the President’s Office still urges that government employees not be asked to report to work for tasks they can conduct from the safety of their homes, and to provide as many services through virtual platforms as possible.
