The second phase of the Did You Know campaign, conducted jointly by the UNDP, the Maldivian Judiciary and institutions of the government, was inaugurated today. The program is designed to increase awareness among the public about constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights of the people.
The program was inaugurated by the Chief Justice, Honorable Uz. Ahmed Faiz Hussain.
The ceremony to inaugurate the program was held at the “Raalhugandu” area in the east of Malé. Speaking in the ceremony, the Chief Justice spoke of the importance of the program. He said that activities to increase awareness about the constitution in the country should be carried out with a huge participation of NGOs all over the country.
The Chief Justice also said that freedom of opinion in the Maldives should be regulated by the principles of Islam, and that no one, either from the country, or abroad, can be given extra latitude in the matter.
