Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that it had recommended that domestic airports in the country would be reopened with no restrictions on travel between islands.

In a press conference at the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) tonight Aminath Shaina Abdulla, Assistant Director of Health Ministry announced easements to be brought to the lockdown order on the capital.

Shaina said that travel between islands would be permitted and internal travel of the country was to be recommenced under the recommendations of health authorities.

“We are recommending to make arrangements for travel between islands free of COVID-19, so domestic airports are also to be reopened,” said Shaina.

However, travel would be permitted once the necessary procedures are followed. Movement of people to and from Male’ City where COVID-19 cases are present, will still have some restrictions.

Health authorities had previously permitted to travel for essential reasons on May 29.
