Migrant passes away, tests positive for COVID-19

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has announced that a 45-year old Bangladeshi migrant national who was taken to IGMH after collapsing on the street had passed away.

The migrant national had tested positive for COVID-19. NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said that contact tracing work on the individual was now underway.

The individual was taken to IGMH around 22:45 last night, said Mabrouq.

“He was found unconscious on the road and taken to IGMH, the individual had passed away when he was taken to IGMH, it was decided. The individual was tested for COVID-19 and was positive for COVID-19. He was taken to the hospital through the (designated) COVID-19 pathway, since the case was discovered in the manner, Contact tracing work is now underway.” said Mabrouq.

Mabrouq said that four people were quarantined in connection with the case so far with more contact tracing underway. 

The individual had been working with a private local individual and had gone to a location on Fareedhee Magu around 22:00 last night. He was a heart patient and had not attended work for almost two months, said Mabrouq who added that no information to indicate that the individual was exhibiting symptoms of the virus was received.

Mabrouq also said that the individual was living with two Bangladeshis and was not a resident of a containment site. He did not state the age of the individual that passed away.

This is the fifth case of death in connection with COVID-19. So far three elderly locals and two Bangladeshi nationals have passed away from the virus.

Mabrouq also announced that 43 cases had tested positive for the virus so far today. The figures include positive cases confirmed yesterday as well. The total figure for the entire nation now stands at 1438. 46 individuals have also made recoveries from the virus today. The total figure of recoveries currently stands at 232.
