President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have stated that the most memorable aspect of the Eid holiday for them, are the Eid prayers and the time spent with family and loved ones.
The first couple were interviewed on an audio call on Raajje TV in the evening today. When asked what the most memorable aspect of the holiday was for the President, He remarked that attending the Eid prayers with family members was the aspect he remembered the most. The President also stated that visiting family households and dining in those households, a traditional activity on Eid, was another aspect he reminisced about.
“It is a very big occasion for all of us to attend the Eid prayers. We would especially take the little ones at home with us. I miss it a lot.” Said the President.
The President recalled that morning tea would always be served in the home of his mother-in-law, while lunch would be served at the President’s mother’s house. The President expressed sorrow at not being able to do that this year, before noting that there would be something good and meaningful behind everything.
Recollecting memories of his first time dining in the home of his wife, the President stated, “ I am a morning tea person. However, lunch was prepared at the house. So I was very surprised, and I thought to myself whether I should eat rice in the morning…? So I did a little something. After that, I get Roshi in the morning of every Eid.”
The First Lady also stated that what she missed the most about Eid was the entire family visiting her mother’s home, and later on visiting the homes of aunts.
“I really felt the sadness and emptiness of that when I woke up in the morning today. We would go from our mother’s home to aunt’s home, taking our children with us. I felt really dejected in the morning.” Said the First Lady.
Due to the situation with COVID-19, Male’ area is still under full lockdown. An occasion that usually sparks wild celebration and air of happiness across the country this year, has certainly been a different one. No mass Eid prayers, no children on the streets playing, no water or color fights, no outings in the evening, this is an Eid of reminiscence. Just as the first couple, many in the country are reminiscing about the years and Eids that have gone by. Many have taken to technology to convey felicitations of the day via video call.
