President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Thursday, conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family of local business magnate Hussain Abdulla, who had died from complications after getting infected with COVID-19.
Hussain Abdulla, better known as Maaroshi Hussain Kaleyfaanu, was the owner of MHA Traders.
He had passed away while under intensive care in Dharumavantha Hospital on Wednesday night. He was 88 years old.
The President conveyed condolences to his family in a tweet on Thursday afternoon.
The President described the late Hussain Abdulla as someone who had provided loyal service to the community.
“I pray the deceased is granted Eternal Paradise and the family patience,” he said.
The late Hussain Abdulla had received the National Award of Recognition for his services to the community in 1992, the National Award of Honor in 2005, and was conferred the Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin in 2011.
He, in addition to running one of the biggest wholesale businesses in Maldives, had also served as the chief of Sh. Maaroshi.
He had opened a school, Madharsathul Munawwara, in his private residence in 1979, and had financially supported a number of students from Sh. Atoll receive their education from abroad.
His death marked the fourth COVID-19 related death in Maldives, and followed the death of his wife Aminath Adam, 83, on April 30. Her death had been the first COVID-19 related death in Maldives.
