MDP wins 2 seats, and PPM wins 1 seat in Council by-elections

The ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) and the newly formed Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) have won seats in the Council by-elections held in Fuvammulah, Himandhoo and Biledhdhoo yesterday.

The by-election to elect a new Atoll Council member for Fuvammulah Medhu Dhaaira was one by Abdullah Muhammad Didi, a member of PPM, who ran for the seat as an independent member.

Biledhdhoo Seat at the F. Atoll Council was won by MDP candidate Ibrahim Naeem, and Himandhoo Seat at AA. Atoll Council was won by Shiman Ibrahim,also an MDP candidate.

Major opposition Divehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) failed to win any seats.

After announcing the results of the by-election last night, Fuad Taufeeq, President of the Elections Commission of the Maldives said that some individuals had called the Commission via phone to complain about the by-elections, and that the Commission had advised them all to submit any complains in writing.
