COVID-19 cases rise to 968 with 13 new infections

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Maldives.

According to HPA, the new cases are eight Maldivians and five Bangladeshis.

It increases total COVID-19 cases in Maldives to 968, the majority of whom are Bangladeshi workers.

511 Bangladeshis have tested positive for COVID-19, most of who live in congested labor quarters in Male’, and were identified through active surveillance on such locations. The Maldivian authorities have moved hundreds of migrant workers living in vulnerable locations to quarantine facilities in Hulhumale’ and Gulhifalhu.

The number of Maldivians to test positive is comparatively lower at 324.

40 people have made full recoveries, and four have died from complications – three Maldivians and one Bangladeshi.

Health authorities have warned they expect a surge in virus cases by the end of May, and have advised the public to limit movements as much as possible and to take all necessary precautions.
