Health Protection Agency (HPA) has just announced that a fourth patient of COVID-19 has passed in the Maldives.
A tweet issued through the official account of HPA just now read that an 88-year old male admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital's DH11 facility had passed away. The time of death is recorded as 23:15.
The patient has been identified as well known local businessman Hussain Abdulla who owns the MHA Company. His wife Aiminath Adam, who had also tested positive for the virus, was the first person to pass away from the virus in the country.
Hussain Abdulla, also known as Maroshi Hussain Abdulla Kaleyfaanu was a respected figure in the country and has spent decades working for the development of special services, education, and the business sector. He had also served as the Katheeb or Island chief of Sh. Maroshi and had received the distinguished honor of Nishaan Kalaafaanu by the state.
He was a self-made businessman whose MHA Company is still one of the biggest in the nation. He was known for having a special love towards his home island of Maroshi.
Also heavily involved in philanthropic work, Hussain Abdulla's noteworthy accomplishments include funding the construction of 10 modern classrooms, a hall, and office building in the Madhrasathul Munawwarrah, a school founded by him in his own home in 1979.
Hussain Abdulla was also involved in teaching at the school where he taught subjects such as the language of Urdu and Religious studies.
The school was later designated as a government school upon the request of the government.
Hussain Abdulla had modernized the school during his 27 years as its head. He had also assisted many others by covering their expenses incurred during studies and had also built mosques in several islands of the country.
Hussain Abdulla was a distinguished recipient of the National Award of Recognition and the National Award of Honor. in 1992 and 2005 respectively.
Hussain Abdulla was designated as patient number 300 of the virus in the country and had tested positive on April 30.
The remaining two deaths in the country included a local and a Bangladeshi national. The local is an 80-year old male, while the Bangladeshi national is aged 33.
The Maldives first identified a community spread of COVID-19 on April 15 in the capital Male' City. Cases of the virus have since increased to 955, with 51 cases confirmed tonight alone. So far 40 people have made recoveries from the virus.
Health professionals in the country have warned that the country could reach its peak of the virus within the next two weeks. The projected total for the country currently stands at around 77,000.
