Dangerous attack foiled by Police last week, says Home Minister

Home Minister Imran Abdulla has said that the Maldivian Police had put a stop to the activities of a group of people last week, who were working towards a very dangerous goal.

Speaking in a press conference today, Minister Imran said that a lot of work was being conducted by the security forces to ensure the safety of the citizens. 

A special focus was being given on protecting the critical infrastructure of the country in addition to security, says Minister Imran. 

“We had been monitoring things closely, and Maldivian Police stopped some people from reaching dangerous targets, just last week.” Noted the Minister.

The Minister refrained from revealing any further information regarding the case citing reasons that it may impede the investigation. 

The Minister pointed out that that those involved in the matter and the public would be aware of what he was speaking about.

“As we increase our focus, and investigate, the authorities becoming aware of specific individuals thinking and discussing about this. We might not take immediate action based on our knowledge. As you are aware, there are laws, policies and limits to take action. When the situation warrants action, we will do so.” Says the Minister.

He noted that some individuals were working to disrupt the peace of the country by taking advantage of the situation. This included people with extremist religious ideology, said the Minister. 

“To them, I am saying that we will not allow anything that disrupts the safety and security of the country during this delicate situation.” Says the Minister.
