Eighty seven Thinadhoo arson attack suspects charged with terrorism

Cases against 87 people suspected of having been involved in the arson attacks on government property in Gdh. Thinadhoo on 8 February 2012 have been filed to Court.

An official of the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office informed that the 87 cases were filed to Criminal Court yesterday.

He said that all 87 suspects, including one woman, are being charged with terrorism.

They are being accused of arson attacks on Thinadhoo Police Station, vehicles at the Police Station, Gdh. Atoll Council Office and Thinadhoo Magistrate Court.

He said that four minors are also suspected of having been involved in these attacks, but cases against them have not yet been filed to Court.

Police completed investigations and submitted the cases against the 87 people to PG Office on 15 May.

Cases against 17 suspects are still under investigation.

Police sent cases against eight additional suspects related to this crime to PG Office on 4 September.

The eight suspects are, Thinadhoo Council Member Ali Ikram of Asareege, Gdh. Thinadhoo; Fathimath Jameela of Hindhoos, Gdh. Thinadhoo, who is the mother of Thinadhoo Council’s MDP Member Mohamed Hassan Didi; Mohamed Nasih Rasheed of Den, Gdh. Thinadhoo; Ahmed Ayaz of Dheeframge, Gdh. Thinadhoo; Shahaaullah Shameem of Theveli, Gdh. Thinadhoo; Mohamed Jaiz of Aprilge, Gdh. Faresmaathoda; Ahmed Aneel of Binmaage, Gdh. Hoadeddhoo; and Zihan Mohamed of Dhibahaaruge, Gdh. Vaadhoo.
