Migrant's death in Kanbaalifaru being tested for COVID-19

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has stated that a migrant who passed away on the island of Sh. Kanbaalifaru is being tested for COVID-19.

In a press conference tonight, NEOC spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez stated that the migrant was being tested as per government procedure regarding inconclusive deaths. Work was now underway to transport the body to Male’, said Mabrouq.

Maldives has so far confirmed 573 cases of COVID-19. Out of the confirmed cases, the majority have been identified in the capital Male’ City.

A migrant worker has also passed away after testing positive for the virus. Although doctors have stated that the migrant’s death is not a result of COVID-19, the death has been ruled as a COVID-19 death as per WHO guidelines.
