Main international airport implements measures of "New Normal"

The main international airport of the country, Velana International Airport has stopped operations due to the spread of COVID-19 in the Maldives. Flights to the usually busy airport are now almost non-existent, apart from essential flights.

Flights carrying stranded passengers and quarantine individuals are still operating via the airport.

One of the most important steps that can be taken in such a situation is to implement social distancing.

Now, the Domestic Terminal of Velana International Airport has been prepared for the “new normal”. Areas are marked with appropriate social distance mediums in effect. Safety precautions for passengers and staff have been fully implemented at the airport.

Despite the dangerous situation in the country, the essential staff of the airport are still working to ensure that operations run smoothly. Due to repatriation flights for stranded guests as well as locals returning from abroad. The airport is also disinfecting its premises regularly and social distancing measures are in place at the International Terminal as well.
