COVID-19 cases rise to 551 with six additional cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has announced that six more individuals have been tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives, bringing the total figure for the country to 551.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in an address to the nation today announced 14 cases identified earlier while the National Emergency Operations Center in a press conference, later announced four more cases bringing the total figure for the country to 545 at the time. 

In a tweet on its official account, HPA announced the additional six cases, which brings the grand total for the Maldives to 551. Among the ten cases announced by the HPA and NEOC are five Bangladeshi nationals and five Maldivians. All in all, 24 cases have been identified in the last 24 hours.

The country has recorded one death from the virus and also recorded 18 recoveries.

A community spread case of the virus was identified in the capital Male’ City on April 15, after which a lockdown and curfew were imposed in the capital. However, cases have popped up in other islands as well. Some of the islands where cases have been identified include Narudhoo, Uligan, Thakandhoo, Milandhoo, and Thulusdhoo.
