The Local Government Authority (LGA) has collected the information of individuals who have been left stranded in other islands in the country due to the lockdown and travel restrictions imposed on the country.

The authority collected the information of the people that had traveled out of their residential islands and had been left stranded in other islands of the country due to the measures.

Speaking with Sun, LGA’s CEO Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood stated that the authority collected the information of those in such situations and wished to return to their residential islands.

“The purpose of the survey is to find a solution to the people who are left stranded on other islands from their residential island. The LGA sent the results of the survey to the National Emergency Operations Center. We will try to find a solution to the issue after discussions with the officials from the NEOC.” Said Shafeeq.

LGA sent a letter to island councils tonight and requested the councils to share the information before 20:00 tonight. The government had made repeated appeals to the public against traveling even before the lockdown on the country was imposed.

Male’ City has been under lockdown and curfew since the first case of community spread of the virus was identified in the capital on April 15. However, many people had traveled to other islands following the closure of the government and schools in the country. Others had also traveled for different purposes such as medical to islands such as Male’ City before the lockdown.
