The authorities in the Maldives have announced that a 12-year old and a 4-year old child are among those tested positive for COVID-19 in the country.

Speaking in a press conference tonight, NEOC medical officer, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal stated that the 4-year old girl who tested positive was a Sri Lankan national who was connected with a previous cluster of the virus known as “MFH”. She has been assigned as Case 112 by the authorities. Dr. Afzal stated that one of the parents of the girl was working in a location connected with the MFH cluster.

The 12-year old boy, assigned as Case 117, is the son of Cases 28 and 31. The child is connected with the “BRB” cluster.

The authorities announced last week that confirmed cases of the virus included a 2-year old, 8-year old, and a 15-year-old child. The new cases tonight, combined with the three previous cases mean that in total five children have been tested positive for the virus in the Maldives.

The Maldives has so far confirmed 128 cases of the virus. They include 60 locals and 68 foreigners.
