President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih commended the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) for the bravery and courage shown through the words and conduct of the armed forces in prioritizing the safety of the citizens before their own.
The president was speaking in a live address on the occasion of the 128th anniversary of the armed forces when he made the remarks and noted that the military was the shield of the Maldivian citizens. He also stated the resolve of the military in defending and sacrificing themselves for the nation until the last man.
The anniversary of the armed forces was being celebrated under the same will during a time when the armed forces were involved in extremely important work for the sake of the nation as it battles against the pandemic Covid-19 virus, said the president.
“Maldivian soldiers, along with a strong resolute, are at forefront of this dangerous mission to ensure the safety and security of citizens.” Said the president who commended the tireless efforts, bravery, and unity of the armed forces.
The president also noted the patience and support of the families of soldiers in their national duty.
The motto for this year’s anniversary is “Soldier’s courage – the safety of the nation” and the President noted that the motto was being fulfilled to the letter by the armed forces in every way.
“We know from this, that our armed forces prioritize the safety of the citizens before their own.” Said the president.
The president also shed light on some of the important work conducted by the MNDF recently. He noted the Nolhivaranfaru speedboat incident, the massive fire that occurred in Male’ City in September of 2019, the fire incident in the South West harbor of Male’ City before thanking MNDF for the invaluable work conducted that saved the lives of citizens.
As the end of the address neared, the President highlighted that the armed forces were very much connected to the hope and prosperity of the citizens. The resolution deeply embedded in the hearts of every soldier in the army to defend the nation and citizen was the pride of all Maldivians and the country, noted the president before ending his address.
