National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) medical officer, Dr. Nazla Mustafa has said that the community spread in Male’ City began almost three weeks ago.

Speaking in a news conference tonight, Dr. Nazla Mustafa from the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) stated that testing in the country was increased to see if there was a community spread. To ensure that this was done, many consulting with the flu clinics and Senahiya hospital were tested for Covidf-19.

“No samples taken before April 15, detected a case of Covid-19,” said Dr. Nazla,” By our estimate the clusters in Male’ City began 2-3 weeks ago.”

She added that statistics have shown that 80 percent of those infected with the virus experience it as the common flu while it became a severe illness for 20 percent. Out of the figure, five percent become seriously ill.

“This means that ventilators may be required for ventilators. From our surveillance, no positive case that needed to be treated in a ventilator has been identified, so we estimate that the community spread in Male’ has been in place for 2-3 weeks.” Said Dr. Nazla.
