Addu City Council has moved to suspend general businesses in the city as the number of Covid-19 cases in the Maldives increase.
The move was implemented by the Council yesterday evening and restricts businesses to delivery services alone. Delivery services should also be registered with the social support desk and receive an official permit before commencing.
Legal action under the decentralization act will be taken against those in violation of the order, warned the Addu City Council.
The move by the Council comes at a time when all businesses barring medical and health services such as pharmacies were ordered to halt their business activities during night time.
The Maldives has confirmed 67 cases of Covid-19 and medical professionals in the country have warned that the figure is expected to increase.
