Several islands in north Maldives placed under lockdown

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, placed several islands in northern Maldives under ‘monitoring’ status after a boat carrying a person who exhibited symptoms consistent with COVID-19 travelled through the islands.

The islands placed under monitoring in connection to the case are:

  • H. A. Ihavandhoo
  • H. Dh. Nolhivaranfaru
  • H. Dh. Vaikaradhoo
  • H. A. Thuraakunu

Sun has been informed the boat had travelled through northern Maldives, docking at islands in both H. A. Atoll and H. Dh. Atoll, prior to the issuance of the lockdown order on April 15.

Meanwhile, H. A. Uligan, to where the person in question had travelled to, is also under monitoring.

Travel in out of islands which are under ‘monitoring’ is banned.

16 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ since the identification of the first case on April 15, increasing cases nationwide to 36. HPA, in addition to ordering a lockdown on Male’ and suburban Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’, has also banned the travel of persons between any Maldivian island.
