Alifushi and Raimmandhoo Council by-election voting begins

Voting for two by-elections began tomorrow morning as scheduled, one to elect a new Councilor for the vacant seat at R. Alifushi Atoll Council, and one to elect a new Councilor for the vacant seat of R. Raimmandhoo Island Council.

Elections Commission of the Maldives reported that voting began at 8 o’clock in the morning.

Two ballot boxes have been kept at Alifushi, while there is one in each of the islands of Vadhoo, Rasgetheem and Angolhitheem.

One ballot box has been placed in Raimmandhoo, while an additional box is placed in Malé, at Iskandar School, for those from the island registered as residing in Malé.

Divehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM), the Jumhoory Party (JP) and the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), the four major parties in the country, contest for the Alifushi Atoll Council seat.

Raimmandhoo Island Council seat has been contested by DRP and MDP.

While there are more than 2500 eligible voters in Alifushi Constituency, just above 115 people would be eligible for voting in the Raimmandhoo Island Council by-election.
