The alert levels in Male’ City have been raised to level 4: Red Alert after the city confirmed the first case of Covid-19.
The HPA tweeted just now that a second case of the virus was also confirmed in the capital city.
HPA confirmed that Male’ City was on Red Alert. Kuredu Island Resort, where the first case of the virus in the Maldives was confirmed was on Orange Alert.
The government has previously stated that the first case confirmed in Male’ had no travel history or contact with another positive case. Authorities were conducting contact tracing on the individual. The individual believed to be a woman had presented herself to the flu clinic in Male’ City yesterday.
How she came into contact with the virus is being investigated by the authorities. The alert level Red is when a local case that has no connection with an imported case is identified. The chance of a local transmission could exist from such a situation, according to the authorities.
Four houses in the capital have been placed under monitoring mechanisms by the authorities following the case and a lockdown of 24-hours has been imposed. The island of K. Kaashidhoo is also under monitoring mechanisms after an individual in contact with the first case had traveled to the island.
The Maldives has so far confirmed 22 cases of the virus. They are 15 foreigners and seven locals. Three locals are being treated for the virus while all others, except two tourists who departed from the Maldives, have made full recoveries. The two tourists had departed after completing their quarantine periods before their test results were received as positive.
The most recent positive case is to be moved by the authorities to an isolation facility.
