Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA), on Wednesday, announced the institution and commercial banks will be closed on Thursday, following the imposition of a 24-hour lockdown on Male’ City.
MMA had previously announced that banks will be open on three days this week; Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.
However, following the 24-hour lockdown on Male’ City, MMA has revised its earlier decision to announce that banks will remain closed on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the national bank, Bank of Maldives (BML) has announced all its service centers and branches will remain closed for the duration of the lockdown. It has also closed down its ATM centers in Male’ City, and has advised customers to gain access to services through internet banking.
Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB), too, has announced it will be closed on Thursday.
The 24-hour lockdown on Male’ City and its suburbs – Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’- was prompted by the first COVID-19 case in the capital earlier this Thursday.
