Local tests positive for Covid-19 from Flu clinic in Male' city

A local has tested positive after consulting with the flu clinic established in Male' city.

Health Protection Agency confirmed the positive case in Male' city, which is the first from the capital city. It is also the first positive case from an inhabited island in the country. The individual is currently being transferred to an isolation Facility 

It is the 6th Maldivian to test positive for the disease and the 21st case of the virus in the Maldives.

Previously five locals had tested positive for the virus. They are four returnees from the UK and one from the Philippines. They were all tested positive for the virus from quarantine facilities.

The epidemiological survey of the Maldives conducted had shown that a community spread of the virus in the Maldives could see cases increase to 98,501, according to HPA. The survey also showed that the country could suffer 10,891 deaths if the appropriate measures are not taken.

Around 46,000 people could get infected by the virus from the Male’ city area alone. It is estimated that 51,000 people could be infected in other areas of the country. The survey estimated that 2,500 cases could be tested positive for the virus within 35 days of a community spread case.
