Cases against former Defence Minister Ameen Faisal and Male’ Mayor Maizan Ali Manik, accusing them of obstructing Police duty, have been sent to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office.
Sun Online understands that the case against Maizan Ali Manik relates to him obstructing Police duty during an MDP protest on 9 August 2012 near Velaanaage.
At this protest, Maizan Ali Manik had intervened and tried to obstruct Police efforts to take a man who broke through Police barricades under arrest.
Ameen Faisal is being accused of assaulting a Police Officer at the same protest.
Police forwarded both cases to the PG Office on 9 September.
Ameen Faisal was summoned to Police on 31 August for questioning in relation to this investigation. He denied the allegations.
Meanwhile, a case accusing Thimarafushi MP Mohamed Mustafa of contributing to loss of peace and order by spreading false information, has also been sent to the PG Office.
Police are also investigating accusations against Henveiru Dhekunu MP Hamid Abdul Gafoor and Maafannu Uthuru MP Imthiyaz Fahmy, that they broke through Police restricted areas during protests.
