World Health Organization (WHO), on Monday, presented Maldives with 5,000 more testing kits used to diagnose COVID-19.
The testing kits were presented by WHO Representative to Maldives, Dr. Arvind Mathur to the Maldivian Health Minister Abdulla Ameen in a function held at the National Emergency Operations Center this morning.
WHO has donated 11,000 testing kits to Maldives so far.
At this Monday’s function, Ameen said that Maldives continued to have effective measures in place in order to curb the spread of the virus within the country.
More than 1,500 people have been tested for the virus so far, he said.
Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) CEO Ibrahim Saleem, who also attended the function, said that its lab technicians were now working round the clock on virus testing, increasing the hospital’s testing capacity to 200 per day.
Saleem said IGMH was working on procuring an additional machine to increase the hospital’s testing capacity to 300 per day.
