The Maldivian government, on Sunday, announced the decision to test everyone in quarantine in designated government facilities for COVID-19, regardless of whether or not they show any symptoms, before authorizing their release.

This shift in policy was announced by Dr. Ali Latheef, during a press conference at the National Emergency Response Center this afternoon.

He said the Maldivian authorities, with counsel from World Health Organization (WHO), had made the decision not to release anyone in quarantine before they are tested and cleared for the virus.
