US welcomes Indo-Pak meeting at Addu City

The United States has welcomed a meeting between premiers of India and Pakistan, on the margin of the ongoing 17th SAARC Summit in Addu City, the Maldives.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousaf Raza Gillani met yesterday morning at Shangri-La resort in Addu City.

About this meeting, US State Department’s Deputy Spokesperson said, according to repots by Associated Press, that the meeting between the two leaders of India and Pakistan would reap benefits not just for the two nations, but for the entire SAARC region as well.

The US is an observer at the ongoing SAARC Summit.

Maidives’ President Mohamed Nasheed also congratulated the leaders of India and Pakistan yesterday, saying that the relations between the two nuclear powers of South Asia were headed on the right direction. President Nasheed also called upon the political parties of the two nations to engage in peace talks.
