Government spokesperson Mabrook Azeez has advised people to report themselves if they have come into contact with a positive or suspected case of Covid-19.

Mabrook stated that no one should wait for the contact tracing conducted by the authorities.

In a news conference tonight, Mabrook said that people were sometimes waiting until authorities contacted following contact tracing, even if they had been in contact with a positive case of the virus. He said that this was not a good idea and that people should report themselves.

Mabrook was urging those in contact with ex-Manchester United star Marouane Fellaini, who tested positive for the virus after departing from the Maldives, to come forward and report themselves.

“It is imperative that those in contact should report themselves to the authorities.” Said Mabrook.

Two in contact with the footballer were now in the quarantine facility in Velidhoo, according to Mabrook who added that contact tracing in the case was being conducted. Anyone in contact with the football star should report themselves to 1676, Mabrook said.

He also added that people in Male’ city area should be more alert since Fellaini had left the country via airport and may have come into contact with a person living in the area.

Authorities are also advising people to stay indoors as a precautionary measure against the virus.
