Medical officer of the government assembled Emergency Response Team, Dr. Nazla Musthafa has advised citizens to refrain from traveling and to stay at home.
She was speaking in a news conference today when she remarked that a large number of people had been traveling to other islands during the holidays announced to contain the Covid-19 virus.
“We advise that the best action for everyone is to remain where they are. People departing from one place is also a public gathering. So, please reduce such gatherings. We believe that the best way is to stop traveling from one place to another.” said Dr. Nazla.
The government has previously also urged people to refrain from café’s and advised government employees to remain indoors during the announced one-week holidays.
While no positive cases of the virus have been identified in the Maldives in nearly 13 days, the country has still confirmed 13 cases of the virus prior to this. No locals have also been tested positive for the virus.
The government has also halted the transfer of tourists between islands and even halted excursions.
