Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced that two foreign nationals from Kuramathi, a resort located in A. A. Atoll, have tested positive for COVID-19.
The two new cases increase the total confirmed cases in Maldives to eight.
HPA had moved the two foreign nationals, along with a local who came in close contact with them, to a quarantine facility on Tuesday.
HPA said on Wednesday that the resort remained under lockdown, and that it continued to conduct contact tracing to identify any more people who may have been exposed to the virus.
The first COVID-19 cases in Maldives came from Kuredu Island Resort, and have been traced to an Italian tourist who stayed at the resort in February and tested positive for the virus upon return to Italy.
Of the eight confirmed cases in Maldives, four are from Kuredu, two from Sandies Bathala, and two from Kuramathi.
All eight COVID-19 patients are foreign nationals.
