Govt. advises against unnecessary travels as virus precaution

The Maldivian government has advised locals against unnecessary travels abroad, amid the outbreak of the Covid-19 disease throughout the world.

Government spokesperson Mabrook Azeez, speaking at a news conference last night, stated that the Foreign ministry advised locals to refrain from unnecessary travels. The Maldives has confirmed six cases of the disease so far.

He added that the ministry requested locals traveling abroad for necessary purposes to register with the ministry via its website. Locals living abroad are to register with the closest diplomatic mission of Maldives and Mabrook noted that the ministry would be assisting any local that wished to return. He added that those returning would, however, be placed under a quarantine of 14-days as a precaution.

Cases tested positive in the country are all foreigners, according to HPA. Four were tested positive from Kuredu Island Resort whle two were tested positive for the cirus from Sandies Bathala Resort.
