President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Saturday, said that the benefits of the legislative amendment to reserve one-third of council seats for women would become evident in the local council elections scheduled for April 4.

The President, at the inauguration of the conference organized by MDP women’s branch to mark International Women’s Day 2020 in suburban Vilimale’ on Saturday morning, praised the government’s amendments to Decentralization Act.

President Solih said the amendment would boost the involvement of women in the political arena, and improve the role of women in decision making roles.

And with this expansion in the role of women, the work of the women’s development committee’s become all the more crucial, he said.

“The reality we need to accept is that the development of the nation requires the role of multiple parties. This is why the role of such committees is so important,” said President Solih.
