President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that he has the full confidence that Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) will win the upcoming local council election by a large majority.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the “Rahvehi Fathis” campaign’s door to door activity, the president stated that the citizens had assigned the government to MDP to bring the massive changes desired.

Up next was the third phase of that work, said the president who added that the election was an important one. MDP has won the presidential election and also won a massive victory in the Parliamentary elections last held.

“If we do not win the local council election, challenges and difficulties would be faced in implementing the work according to our pledges.” said the president.

The president also noted that MDP members and candidates were aware of the importance of this election and affirmed his satisfaction with how the election work is being carried out by the party. He commended the fact that MDP had already won a number of seats in councils almost a month before the elections.

“This shows the trust between the people and us.” said the president.

The door to door campaign of MDP was commenced with president Solih, party president Mohamed Nasheed and party chairperson in Male’ city today. The party said that every household of the capital would be visited by its officials as part of the campaign. Parliamentary representatives of atolls and islands would also visit the households in Male’ city where people from other atolls of the country are living, according to MDP.
