Nasheed meets UK Foreign Secretary

Former President Mohamed Nasheed has met UK Foreign Secretary William Hague, as part of his current unofficial visit to the UK.

Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) said that at the meeting, Nasheed talked about obtaining the international community’s support for the implementation of the recommendations in the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI).

William Hague assured that the UK will assist with rectification measures as per the wishes of the people of Maldives, and thanked MDP for its current efforts.

Nasheed departed to the UK last Sunday.

Prior to his departure, Nasheed told reporters that he will meet with some senior officials of the government and the Secretary General of the Commonwealth.

He said that information will be provided on the current political situation of the Maldives.
