HPA: Risk of Covid-19 high, emergency drills underway for preparations

Safety and prevention measures are being undertaken in the Maldives amid fear of the Covid-19 disease spreading to the Maldives.

The disease, which originated in China, has fast spread across the globe and the Health Protection Authority of Maldives stated that the chance of the disease spreading to the Maldives was high. Due to this perceived risk, a national emergency operation center has been established and steps are being implemented in case the virus is identified in the country.

Steps being taken to prevent the virus:

  • A travel clinic established in the Maldives: Additional Covid- 19 screening for arrivals to the Maldives.
  • Flu clinic: The clinic is to be established in Senahiya hospital and would be designated for other flu spreading in the country.

HPA also announced that emergency drills for the disease would be conducted. The purpose of the drill is to prepare, identify the directions and the adequate steps to be taken regarding a positive case of the virus in a household.
