Maldivian students in South Korea have said that they are in good health and that around six students are in the country that has been hard hit with the Covid-19 disease.

Students that spoke with “Sun” said that the government was checking up on them and that they were in good health for now.

“We are in an area near Seoul. There are four students here. Colleges have been closed because of the coronavirus. The whole area is in lockdown. Shops are closed and we are staying inside the house with food.” said one student.

Travel restrictions from two areas of the country have been imposed by the Maldives. The country has the highest number of cases of the disease after China.

“A suspected case was identified from nearby but has not yet been confirmed. The easy thing is that information is available transparently here. There is an application that provides information about the disease. Notifications about an infected person and where he had been are available. Colleges also provide information. That makes things easy. We are not panicking.” said a student who spoke from Korea.

Isolated treatment for people with flu are also arranged and the students remarked that the arrangements are very well made.

A Maldivian in Korea said that all Maldivians in the country had been contacted and that everyone was ready to help each other if a situation arose.

Foreign Ministry announced the travel restrictions on Korea and Iran yesterday and stated that it was monitoring the condition of locals in the countries very closely. The ministry requested Maldivians in South Korea to register with the foreign ministry or at the Maldivian Embassy in Japan.
