Minister Shahid travels to Geneva for Human Rights Council meeting

Foreigjn Minister Abdulla Shahid, has travelled to Geneva, to take part in the High-level Segment of the 43rd Session of the Human Rights Council.

During the three-day segment, over 80 member states of the Human Rights Council and various international organisations will conduct discussions on human rights issues of global concern.

Minister Shahid will deliver a statement on behalf of the Maldives on February 25, 2020, where he will highlight on the human rights achievements of the government and touch upon various other international human rights issues.

The foreign minister is scheduled to meet with Ms. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and will also engage in bilateral discussions with his counterparts from different countries and organisations to enhance the pre-existing cooperation of the Maldives with others in the field of human rights and open opportunities for further cooperation.

Furthermore, minister Shahid will also actively take part in three events hosted by the Commonwealth of Nations, Alliance for Multilateralism and the Contact Group on Council Membership respectively, during the high-level segment.
